A last gasp winner left Downham pointless when arguably they deserved at least a point in what was always going to be a tough game at Whitton.
Although Downham had key players missing the adaptability of the players bore fruit and Town gave a great account of themselves against a team who have been tipped to be challenging for promotion come the end of the season.
Jonno Sykes gave us a great start with a thumping header in the Whitton net but credit to the hosts who missed a couple of good opportunities to draw level but eventually they made the honours even before half time.
Early in the second half a Whitton player went tumbling in the Downham box with the resulting penalty cooly dispatched. Downham then began to press and pin Whitton back and it was Jonno Sykes who popped up again to equilise. Downham continued to press but were denied the well deserved point when Whitton stole a last minute winner.
The Downham players showed great committent and belief in what they can achieve regardless of who they are up against. Onwards to Woodbridge.
